Until now I have always worked from my own photographs. This project is a collaboration with photographer Chrystie Sherman, who traveled to Tunisia in the summer of 2016 to photograph synagogues and other Jewish Heritage sites as part of the Diarna Geo-Museum project. I choose a group of buildings from Chrystie’s work which are connected by color (blue and white) and structural features (arches). Some of the synagogues are in a state of total disrepair, because their communities were forced to flee, while others are still in active use. The goal is to create an exhibit which features both the source images, single photographs of synagogues, by Chrystie, and composite images by me. A viewer would be able to find the source images in the composites, like solving a puzzle. This would actively engage the viewer in the exhibition content.
